Many of you on our portal are primarily looking for motivation and examples showing that despite difficult beginnings, you can achieve a lot in the football.
Today we have an example for you that shows that determination and the ability to adapt to the expectations of clubs is the key to making a good career without having to start a career in a good club.
Łukasz Piszczek, the legendary right-back of Borussia Dortmund, who will retire after this season, may be a role model for many young beginner players.
Piszczek started his career in LKS Goczałkowice, an amateur club from his native locals.
He was a striker initially, but few considered he had the talent to play at a professional level in the future.
Łukasz, however, had great faith that he might someday be a professional.
Every day he trained many hours to develop himself.
It was only at the age of 16 that he managed to join the semi-professional academy Gwarek Zabrze.
Gwarek is a club known for promoting footballers, although as a club it plays at a low level of competition in Poland.
Piszczek worked very hard, he was perfectly prepared physically, he had great speed and bravery.
He was very ambitious and he kept asking the coaches what he could improve.
This attitude paid off because at the age of 19 he joined the youth teams of Hertha Berlin.
It was difficult for him to get into the first team and he was loaned to weaker clubs to gain experience.
The breakthrough moment was when in 2008 Hertha was looking for a right-back and the coach Favre decided to place Piszczek there.
The beginnings were difficult, but with time when Piszczek gained experience in a new position, it turned out that due to his speed, bravery and good crosses, it is perfect position for Łukasz.
Thanks to a good game in 2010, he received an offer from Borussia Dortmund.
After the transfer, he became a basic player almost immediately and at the same time there was a moment when he was considered one of the best right-backs in the world.
He has been playing for Borussia for 10 years and has played around 350 Bundesliga matches.
It is an amazing achievement considering the fact that, as Łukasz himself says, even in his junior teams in Goczałkowice there were several boys with more talent and it was he who made a world career.
He owes everything to his steadfast self-confidence, hard work and the ability to adapt to the coach's expectations.
As he says, if his position had not been changed then, his career in the German league would probably have ended long ago.
