Also an important factor in the footballer's remaining with the academy was that his father provided the club with sports equipment and the club did not want to lose a very good supplier.
After accepting Simon to the academy, the management of the club asked all the coaches to write down the most talented players of the year in which Simon also trained, so that years later to check which coach was right.
As it turned out, no one wrote Simon Kjær's name on the list of top talent at the time.
When Simon got to the academy, he decided that he would not waste his chance and trained with incredible commitment, even though he was clearly weaker than his teammates at the time.
He trained individually every day.
He constantly asked the coaches what he needed to improve.
Day after day, he trained as hard as no other player at the academy, and finally made his debut in the Danish senior league four years later for FC Midtjylland's first team.
Then unexpectedly, after a year of playing, he joined Serie A to the Palermo team.
Today he is one of the best center-backs in the world, though no one believed he would fit into a little-known academy at the time.
