Carles Puyol, one of the best defenders in FC Barcelona's history, did not start at the club's academy.
He also did not start his career at one of the largest academies in Spain to be noticed by club scouts from the Catalan club and bought out at a young age.
Puyol started from the lowest level because he initially played in a completely amateur team: Pobla de Segur and he got to Barcelona by participating in open tests, in which several hundred young players from all over Spain took part.
Initially, Puyol was not considered an outstanding talent even in the amateur band where he began his career.
However, he was very determined.
When he left for the test in Barcelona, his father told him the words he had followed throughout his career: “If they don't choose you, because there will be 20 better players than you, nothing will happen and no problem.
But if they give up on you because 20 other players were more determined than you, don't even come home! "
And these were the words Puyol followed throughout his career. At the beginning in the academy he was one of the less talented players, but he always trained the most and eventually caught up and his determination led him to the absolute top.
